Description
Vitamin B-12 (cyanocobalamin) is a water-soluble vitamin necessary for maintaining a healthy nervous system and producing energy from fats and proteins. Vitamin B-12 is also essential for DNA synthesis during cell division and is therefore particularly important for rapidly multiplying cells, such as blood cells. While vitamin B-12 is stored in the liver, its dietary sources are exclusively animal-based (meat and dairy products). Therefore, taking vitamin B-12 supplements may be especially important for people following a strict vegetarian diet.
