THE Sylibum marianum is part of the family of Asteraceae or composed.
This biennial plant is native to the Mediterranean basin where it grows in dry, sunny, warm soils and flowers from June to August.
THE fruits, called achenes, are used from theAntiquity then to the Middle Ages.
Their interest lies in their composition: flavonoids (including silymarin : silybin + silydianin + silychristin), sterols and oils.
